Just played some of my tunes at the NOoSPHERE Arts benefit auction this past week. Here is a link to my facebook page, showing some of the shots taken with Thea Beemer on vocals. It was fun (as usual) being back in New York, surrounded by the insane pace of the city - even if I was drowning in snow and slush for a few days on the way to both gallery performances. Where's my limo??? No, really... :)
I also decided to post (here) some of the audio composition from my performance art piece executed that evening - a theatre and movement piece, entitled Woman in a State of Panic. You won't be able to tell from the audio alone - but the piece focuses on female identity - both on a personal level and as presented in popular culture, involving some of the conflicts, humor and reality between the two. Another major theme included sexuality as that is, after all, what defines a woman as a 'woman' and not just an individual person. You'll have to see these events in order to understand them, and I will be posting more about upcoming performances.
Some people may not know I do performance art because I don't advertise like I do my tunes, but I am very, very obsessed with this art form right now. I know it's sort-of a fad in the last few years - Jay-Z's Picasso Baby, etc. - many are critical of labeling these performances as such - but whatever. I'm not one to follow fads - recently it's just been burning up inside of me to find a new form of expression and this is the format that makes most sense to me, so F*** it. :) I've attached an audio clip from the performance here - a shortened version, so you can hear a snippet. Using movement/theatre, audience interaction and music to communicate a more sophisticated layering of expression is a joy I can't describe - come check one out if you're interested. Come with an open mind and more interest in your subconscious than your practical mind. :)
This Spring, I'll be back in NYC mid-March for a different Group Art Show, performing an acoustic musical set. I'm excited as this will be something new - a very intimate performance in an intimate space following the theme of the exhibition - Du Weißt, ich liebe das leben (you know I love life). Info is on my SHOWS page for that one and will be updated as more shows are currently being booked for New York City and Europe.
